it's barely day three of nyfw and i'm already overwhelmed with all the spring goods we have to look forward to next year. my favorite trend? ALL WHITE EVERYTHING. clean, fresh, effortless, and refined. new season, new wardrobe, new start.
In homage to ELLE's 25th anniversary, our favorite twenty-something stars are gracing the individual collectible covers, and also dropping a few words of wisdom they learned during their first quarter of life. As a girl lumped into this same age group, this celebration of the twenty-somethings hits a chord for me. Lots has happened in the past few years, lots have been learned, and so so so much more is left to be experienced. My friends and I are allll struggling right now. Yes, we have our degrees. Yes, we HAD jobs. Yes, we did our fair share of internships (gosh I had SO MANY). Yes, we loved. Yes, we lost. Where to now? Not quite sure. I just know we're all going SOMEWHERE.
If I were to be interviewed for this issue of ELLE, my quote would be:
"IT IS BETTER TO HAVE MADE A MISTAKE AND LEARNED FROM IT, THAN TO HAVE REGRETTED NEVER MAKING THE MISTAKE AT ALL."
Here's to the next twenty five.
"I'm both young and old. My mom told me,
'Don't grow up too quickly; once you're an adult, you'll always be an adult"
"The best thing is, I'm happy.
The worst thing is that I'm scared --
the scariest thing is that I know it can't be easy--the years to come."
"It's your time to be selfish;
you still have freedom."
"Jump out of a plane!
In your twenties, you're still very courageous."
"It's like when you're 16 and order a martini, and the waiter says,
'do you think I'm stupid? '
They can't grasp that I'm old enough to be married.
Marriage? Me? Hell no. Not in this decade. But everything else these ladies said, yes, I second that.
Reading through my daily BLOGLOVIN' roll, I stumbled upon the coolest thing. New York Magazine's fashion blog, The Cut made a slideshow of photos given by 100 designers. And not of just any photo -- it is a single picture along with a required one-liner, as a point of inspiration that captures the whole vibe of their upcoming Spring 2011 shows. It's not often that we get to see mood boards or quirky photos that let us into the minds of these fashionable artists, so therefore I was pleasantly amused [and inspired] while clicking through the collection. Below are some of my faves.
ALEXANDER WANG: "WHITE OUT"
CHARLOTTE RONSON: "ADORN"
NARCISO RODRIGUEZ: "THE BEETLES"
RAG & BONE: "SUBSAHARA"
It'll be very interesting to see how these inspirational pictures will play out once Spring 2011 shows debut. Some of these are pretty literal and straight forward, and other a little more obscure and a little peculiar. Either way, I'm sure none of the models will be walking down the runway dressed as a beetle or with white-out poured down her gown.
